Ireland’s Sam Bennett maintained his second point win on point 14 at Oviedo this year’s Vuelta a Espana.
The rider sailed ahead of Max Richeze of Argentina in third with Belgian Tosh van der Sande .
The end was ruled by a gigantic crash at the last kilometre which took out many in the peloton and prevented a mass rush to the line.
Rush leader Primoz Roglic of Slovenia endured from the crash but did not lose any time.
The phase was assumed to be quieter day after two tough weeks in the saddle and mountain stages to come on Monday and Sunday.
It geared up to get a couple finish, although entering the final kilometre riders were sent tumbling on an incline.
Bennett appreciated a comfortable victory than he could have imagined as Richeze along with Van der Sande was overtaken by him in the 500m, and was ahead of this.
After winning his fifth in a Grand Tour, and point three to 26 August at the 2018 Giro d’Italia following three, it was his next La Vuelta stage victory.
The 28-year-old is having an exceptional season for this his 13th success.
“I’m just thrilled,” Bennett told Eurosport. “I’ve reached my goal to the entire year, but there are another one or 2 more wins to come.”
More to follow.
